Two months in India! There were so many places of interest to us, it was an embarrassment of riches. We spent endless hours researching and planning the cities we wanted to visit, where to stay and what we wanted to see and do. Using New Delhi as a base, we would travel to Nepal and then down the eastern coast of India to the southern state of Kerala. We would tour the northern holy cities of Amritsar, Haridwar and Rishikesh. We would relax (and scuba dive!) in Goa. We would visit the beautiful pink city of Jaipur. Between trips we would spend time in Delhi revisiting our old neighborhoods and haunts, familiar landmarks as well as the new, modern additions to the city.

We took thousands of photos and several hours of video to supplement our vivid memories of all the sights, sounds, smells and scenes of India.

This trip would not have been possible for us without the kind invitation of Ted’s friend, Rekha, to stay in her home in New Delhi for “as long as we want.” Rekha and Ted have known each other since they were five years old. In the 1950s, Rehka's parents were stationed at the Indian Embassy in Washington, D.C. and became friends with Ted’s parents. The friendship was renewed when Ted’s parents were assigned to New Delhi in the 60's. Ted and Rekha have stayed in touch over the years.

For Ted, it had been 25 years since his last trip to India, for Anne it has been 38 years. Statistics say that half the current population in India is under the age of 25, and two-thirds is under 35. That means that more than half the people we saw were born since our last visits!
