Ted and Anne met in 1966 in their Sophomore year in High School in India. Their parents were diplomats stationed in New Delhi. Anne's family had been posted to Belgrade, Paris, Calcutta, Ankara and Saigon before arriving in Delhi. Ted's parents were on their first overseas tour, and had been in India since 1963.

Ted saw Anne on her first day at school with the hot Mary Quant haircut and a 'too cool to smile' expression (really just very shy!). He said to himself that he had to get to know this girl. Anne saw the very intense 'bad boy' and of course was attracted to him. They started going steady off and on through 10th grade while Ted tortured her, breaking up and making up on a whim.

At the end of their Sophomore year, they were still on speaking terms, but not dating. Ted's parents were reassigned that summer, and they moved to Costa Rica. Ted and Anne wrote to each other sporadically over the next two years until 1969 when they were both back in the US; Anne at the University of Rhode Island and Ted in Maryland. Both of them were feeling lost and maladjusted in the US and naturally turned to each other again. Many big phone bills later, Anne visited Ted a few times in Maryland, and found out that he was a cat person!
Anne transferred to a Florida college, Ted moved to Boston to work and make films. Again, they wrote each other occasionally. After graduation, Anne moved to Washington, D.C. working various jobs. Ted came down from Boston to visit and invited her for an outing in his father's four-wheel drive Blazer. Trying to impress Anne with his off-road talents, Ted found a wooded area near Manassas, Virginia and started weaving a path through the trees and the heavy undergrowth. He soon got lost. Scraping metal trim off the vehicle as he tried to fit between trees, he eventually got stuck in deep mud. Anne was not amused. During the many hours it took to wait for help, Ted and Anne had trouble finding common ground. He was still a hippie and she was getting more serious about life. They parted that day feeling there was no future to the relationship.

Several years later Ted moved to New York and then got married. He finally got a "real" job as a photographer for an energy company. He worked there for 28 years. The job allowed him to be a free spirit, play with the latest photo and video gadgets, and get paid at the same time.

Anne worked in D.C. for a few more years, and then got a job at the US Embassies in Paris and Lima. She changed careers in 1987 and became a French and Spanish teacher in a middle school in Vermont. One day in 1998, twenty five years since that fateful day in Manassas, she got an E-mail from Ted. He had recently divorced and was thinking about Anne, and found her on the high school alumni web site. One E-mail led to another and soon they were dating again. Ted was a dedicated scuba diver and got Anne interested in diving. She got certified and loved it.

In June 1999, Ted and Anne were married. Anne moved to New York. Six years later, Ted's company made him an offer he could not refuse and he took early retirement. Anne followed suit. Now they live in Florida and Vermont and are trying to fulfill their dream of travelling - diving, biking and making videos - around the world.
